Inspired by the month of love and Chinese New Year's festivities, 'Valentine' is a Limited Edition shade of our 'Stripey Baby Blanket' Knitting Kit.
Our Stripey Baby Blanket Knitting Kit is personally one of my favourite creations, because it is a beginner project but it looks more sophisticated and difficult to make as it actually is. The three colour-block stripes bring a modern twist to this classic newborn staple, and the original colour combination of mustard yellow, light grey and white give it a Scandinavian feel, for a soft and neutral addition to any nursery.
And like for all our other knitting kits, the yarn is made in Britain and is soft, non-itchy and most of all machine-washable - because who has time to hand-wash their knits, right?
The joy in this colour-block design is that you can play around with the stripes and colours in endless combinations. So when Layan Kids, one of our Hong Kong stockists, messaged me to ask me whether I would be interested to work on a Limited Edition colour with them, I was beyond excited.
Layan Kids is The Knitting Room's first ever stockist, and still is one to this day. A quaint little baby goods boutique located in the heart of the busiest shopping district in Hong Kong, it was founded by a lovely girl called Yammie who has an impeccable eye for curating products if I can say so myself - she mostly imports her products from Korea and Australia so the quality is top notch but still very affordable, and the style is definitely contemporary with a lot of neutrals and pastels. She is also one of the most hard-working girls I know, running her boutique daily until late at night, taking part in fairs all over Hong Kong and China to promote the brands she's carrying. On her own initiative, she has knitted all the kits that she's stocking for me: The Stripey Baby Blanket, The Pompom Baby Shoes and most recently The Everyday Scarf so that she can answer any questions that her customers have. The ultimate #girlboss.
The 'Valentine' Limited Edition has been designed in collaboration with Yammie, and is a red ombré, combination of dark red, pink and white. Red being the colour of love, but synonym of happiness and good luck in Chinese culture, it only seemed appropriate for the occasion.
